waitaki Valley - NZ
The Waitaki Valley, is home to the tributaries of the Waitaki River, the Ahuriri, Otematata, Maerewhenua, and Hakataramea rivers. The valley that bears the river's name features some of the most stunning views of the Southern Alps, including Aoraki/Mount Cook, and contains the glacial lake Ohau. Lake Ohau along with the glacial lakes Pukaki and Tekapo feeds the Waitaki River via the Ohau and Tekapo rivers.The Waitaki River is an important part of the Waitaki hydroelectric scheme, which it passes through as it makes it’s from the Mackenzie Basin to it’s Pacific Ocean outflow between Timaru and Oamaru.
